Manhole Cover – Chiba

If you pay attention when you are out and about in Japan you will notice that the Japanese make some everyday things into works of art. Manhole covers are one of those things.
The cover to the left is from Chiba Prefecture is quite beautiful considering what it covers. People look at you a little bit funny when you are photographing manhole covers but such is the life of a blogger.
The bird is a tern (koajisashi), the trees are Japanese zelkova (keyaki) and the flower is an Oga Lotus (oga hasu).
So don’t forget to look down as you wander around in Japan – you might miss something!

I love the manholes in Japan (so does Martine from frangipani.info she has a whole flickr set devoted to them!). I am from Australia and there is one in Misato I think it is (Actually it isn`t Misato but it is near there) that has Australian animals on it since they have a sister city in Australia. Super cute!
Nice photo!!!! Also thanks for the link to the shinkansen booking site….will be helpful for friends!
Lulu, I’m glad that you find the link useful – I’ve added it to my blogroll so you can always find it when you need it.
I also love the manhole covers in Japan – and I’m always checking them out. I hope to share more of my discoveries soon.
